  • 1st Day of School: This is a day unlike any other. Such a huge shift from the summer! It is a day of hope, excitement, anxiety and so many more emotions. No matter how many years you have been teaching, it is an amazing experience… that happens each year!

Have a GREAT 1st Day Lesson: Create a lesson that students will love. On the 1st day there are a lot of rules and regulations classes. Whatever your content is, be engaging. Make is a class to remember and if a students gets the inevitable question “What did you do in school?” The student will share your memorable lesson.

Get to Know Your Students: Many students will have learning modifications. Be sure to spend time before the 1st class familiarizing yourself with the needs of these students. It will help you on day #1 and day #180.

Seating Charts: Seating charts are a great way to start the year off on the right foot. This will allow a teacher to put a face tot he name. There are many creative ways to have a seating. Talk with your peers for ideas.

November Lessons & November Jokes for Teachers

November is a different month. It is a month with a lot of starts and stops. Election Day week, there is school on Monday, Tuesday off, and then 3 days of classes. November 11th is Veterans Day. A day that is celebrated on the date, so once again there is a disruption to the week. In some years, Veterans Day may result in a long weekend, but in most years it falls during the school week. Lastly there is Thanksgiving. This is a very short week. Some school districts go three days, and others go two with Wednesday being off. Additionally, parent conferences also are often scheduled during this month and a grading period often comes to a close. For high school teachers it is the end of the fall sports season and often the start of the winter season. It is a fairly chaotic month to say the least.
