The birds are singing, the spring athletes are on the fields and track, and at the high school level, the senior college decisions are received and students are making the final choice for next fall.

In terms of the school year, there is light at the end of the tunnel. The days are getting longer and the end of the year activities are starting to appear on the calendar. 

The first week of April is the start of spring sport games. Teams have been selected. Uniforms have been handed out. Lineups and roles on the team have been established. Underclassmen in high school may be taking standardized tests.

April Fool’s Day requires a teacher to be on his / her toes. Depending upon the population of students you teach, the challenges are very different. There may be a set of twins that finds it amusing to switch classes for the day. Colleagues may like to play practical jokes and today is a special day for them. Perhaps you, yourself, enjoy April Fools Day pranks.

Good Friday is a day off for many schools. This makes for a four day work week. Teachers need to plan accordingly. 

Some college students may have spring break. High school teachers may want to invite former students in to speak to students about college experiences. Also, if a teacher is a parent of a college age kid, be sure to factor this in to your planning.
