With special education IEPs, 504 plans and co-teaching very often a general education teacher will have additional educators in the classroom. These educators can be beneficial in many ways, but in order to be effective, there must be some coordination and planning.
Some schools do a fantastic job of establishing roles and having clear expectations. Many schools can have unclear definitions and expectations of roles. At the start of a school year, the lead teacher is not always aware of the additional educators who will be in the classroom until the first day.
A teacher often does not have time when starting school year to take class time to figure out who each person is, so sending an email or sharing a google doc with the educators may be the most efficient way to collect information.
Create an Educator Profile Questionnaire
This is a simple information sheet to learn about the different educators in the classroom. It can be very simple. Learning about the background and roles of the adults in the room is critical to understand the students being supported and these educators can be best utilized.
