America is the land of the free and the home of the brave. So many brave Americans gave their lives in service to our country so we could enjoy our freedoms and democracy. Too many gold star families understand that freedom is not free. Memorial Day is a time to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, giving their lives for our country. 

Attending a Memorial Day parade and ceremony is a valuable experience for people of all ages. Most communities will have some type of event to honor those individuals who have given so much to our country. recognition. 

What to expect at a Memorial Day parade

Veterans: There will be veterans who will be participating. Some will walk. Others may ride the route in a car or a trolley. These veterans should be honored, saluted, and celebrated for their service to our country.

Goldstar Families: Soldiers are not the only people who make sacrifices for our country. Family members who have lost loved ones in service, will be present and honored. 

High School Musical Groups: Marching bands will perform and participate in the parade. At the ceremony following the parade, there often will be singing groups who will sing the national anthem and other patriotic songs.

Elected Officials: Politicians have a very special bond to this day. Elected officials know the important role that members of the military play in our country and our freedom. Few politicians will miss the opportunity to march in a Memorial Day or Veterans Day parade.

Junior ROTC High school Junior ROTC groups will participate in the events. These individuals will serve our country in the future. It is encouraging to see the younger generation getting involved. 

It is great to be an American. It’s great to be a part of your community. Attending a Memorial Day Parade is a fantastic tradition. You will be sure to see neighbors and others who you know. These events make us appreciate our country and reaffirm our pride in America.
