How to Teach The Last Lecture Book to High School Students
The Last Lecture is a great book for high school students. For the past few years, I have been using the book with high school seniors. The content of the book lends itself to many personal reflection activities that most of the students seem to enjoy.
Here is a writing prompt that I share with the students.
1. ROLES – “I thought about how I defined myself: as a teacher, a computer scientist, a husband, a father, a son, a friend, a brother, a mentor to my students. Those are all the roles I value.” (page 10) Explain THREE of “the roles YOU value.” Explain each role. Explain why you value each of these roles. Why are they important to you? Explain what you can do to fulfill each role.
