TRYOUTS – Choose the either a select team (AAU, HNIB, Club soccer, OPD) or high school team to answer the following question

  1. If you have tried out for a select team (AAU, HNIB, Club soccer, OPD) that has a selection process (cuts), answer the following questions.
    1. How many players were competing for spots to make the team?
    2.  What were your emotions during the tryout period and the time waiting for the final team selection?  How did the result affect you?
    3. Do you feel the selection process was fair?
    4. Look at the other side of the selection process, the one that didn’t affect you (either being cut or making the team).

INJURIES are a part of sport. They can happen at the most inconvenient times. 

  1. Describe a sports injury that you experienced.
    1. What was it?
    2. How old were you?
    3. How did it affect you emotionally and psychologically?

COMEBACK WINS are one of the most exciting and emotionally of all athletic contests. The Red Sox came from 3 games down to win the World Series. It lifted the entire RED SOX NATION!

  1. Describe a comeback win that you were personally involved with.
    1. Explain the scenario.
    2. Describe the range of emotions you experienced DURING the contest.
    3. Describe the emotions you felt at the CONCLUSION!

THE ANTICIPATION AND THE SPEECH

  1. Describe an important athletic contest that you were waiting to compete in.
    1. What was the competition? Why was it such a big deal?
    2. What did you do the day of the event? How did you pass the time? What were your emotions?
    3. What were your emotions IMMEDIATELY BEFORE the actual contest?
  2. Describe the most motivational speech that you have heard before a sports contest.
    1. What team did it involve?
    2. Who gave the speech and what was the message?
    3. How did you and team respond?

THE BLOWOUT 

  1. Describe a time when you or your team felt completely overmatched OR a time you’re your team overmatched the opponent.
    1. What level of competition was it?
    2. How soon were you aware of the overmatch?
    3. Describe your thoughts, emotions, and attitude during the contest.  

PARENT – “It is hard to say no to someone who drove you to practice everyday.” – Jim Craig

  1. Explain the role of your family in your athletics
    1. How does your family participate in your sports career? Is it positive? Negative?
    2. How do your parents react to your athletic successes and failures? Give specific examples.
