Grandparents Day: Feedback Last All Year Long

When a teacher decides to complete this activity, the benefits last in entire school year. For the psychology teachers, the feedback is a variable interval. You NEVER know when feedback. 

There was one particular letter from 2025-2026 school year that resulted in a completed form with five letter letters. There will be imperfections to an activity like this because not everyone with the directions. For example, one particular student from the class in 2029 did not include the date that he sent the letter. The teacher knew when the letters were mailed out on three separate days, so that is not a huge problem. Here are the mailing dates and locations of the letters”

  1. September 10th, 2025: Original letter sent by: Patrick Town, State to Grammy & Pepe                          
  2. September 17th, 2025: Letter #2 by: Lisa          from Sturbridge, MA to Roxanne.
  3. September 22nd, 2025: Letter #3 by      Roxanne from Bromfield, MA to Rachel.
  4. September 29th, 2025: Letter #4 Rachel from Brimfield. MA Laura.
  5. June 9th, 2026: Letter #5 by Laura                                 from Southbridge, MA Linda.                              

This is the form posted in the teacher’s room. It was random. The time between Letter #4 and Letter #5 is incredible – close to 9 months. 

The gap serves as a great reminder that the project is unpredictable and dependent on strangers. Big gaps are not uncommon. More common is someone receiving a letter, feeling appreciated, and never finding the time to “Write it Forward.” 

There was another example involving twins with relatives in Ireland. Both boys participated in the letter writing project. One boy the letter did not get to the end. The other boy’s letter found its way to the teacher’s mailbox on the VERY LAST DAY OF SCHOOL and the return address was IRELAND!
