As I sit down to write this, I am at the automotive shop having my wife’s car oil changed. I
happen to have another week of Winter Break, while she and the boys went back to school
yesterday.
It has been a while since I have written a blog post, a chapter in a book, or anything longer than
an email. I miss writing, even as a teacher, Board member, and self identifying Educational
Leader.
I am Dr. Tracy Kelly. A current Resource Teacher, the Vice president of my local School Board, a
husband to a Special Education teacher, and a father to three boys. I know a few things about
our educational system.
I spend a lot of time discussing IEPs, school and district leadership, as well as presenting
sessions on “How to Hold a Positive IEP.”
I am unsure of where this article will go. I did want to give you a clue of who I am.
Back to School after a long break. Let’s go there. I have recently become aware of the term
“Sunday Scaries.” I would guess this isn’t a new term for many of you, but it is to me. I joined the
USMC when I was 17 years old. That and being in private industry for the first 25 years of my
adult life put me on a path of enjoying the structure of a work schedule. I look forward to
Monday’s and also, the light heartedness of Fridays. Yes, the kids and adults around me, often
question my sanity. I do not feel that I live to work, I choose to enjoy all parts of my life.
Especially Monday’s, even after a long break, i.e., Winter, Spring, and Summer.
This has helped me almost always have a positive outlook on life, but most especially, my
chosen second career of Education!
As you and I, plus many many others come back to our jobs as educators, the students are
once again roaming hallways, and the energy of a school sight ramps up for Spring, and all that
comes with it, I hope you will take stock of your outlook on your current career of Education.
