My Town Tutors is a website designed to provide ideas, drills by grade, books, teaching tools, basketball jokes, guest blogs, basketball quotes, and so much.

You’re reading this. You have a passion for Basketball. You might be willing to do that little extra that other basketball players don’t do. If you’re a competitive basketball player, you will try to find any little advantage that can make you a better player and can help you find a way to help your team be special.

If you are in this Basketball journey for a lifetime, highly recommend stuff good players know. Some successful players have called it their Basketball Bible. It was written by the founder of Point Guard basketball college. And it could be that one little thing that makes the difference in one little play. It creates an incredible memory for you and your team.

What is the purpose of a Basketball journal paragraph? A Basketball journal is very different from a workout journal. A basketball journal is designed to help me play the roller coaster of a high school season. I could not imagine being a first year varsity player as a senior in a high school program. With the stress of trying out, then eventually making the team, and now trying to find a role, it can be overwhelming. Good basketball players slow down the game. They analyze the defense, use their past experience and knowledge, evaluate options, and then make a decision. Most of the time that process takes less than two minutes two seconds.

Each player’s journal will be different and each player’s journal it’s will have a different impact. Some suggestions for the journal

Write down the date in the event. For example, December 1, 2025 first day of tryouts. I was so excited for the first day of tryouts. I know I worked extremely hard and improved during the off-season. I am in the best shape of my life. I remember last year I cramped up during conditioning and that did not leave the impression I wanted with the coaches. I was not the only one who struggled with conditioning so this year I wanted to be one of the few players that stood out. I have been stretching consistently, and I was one of the top finishes in the conditioning Grills.

Offensively played within myself. I know my go to move is a baseline front and I attack the rim aggressively and finish at the rim with the move that I worked on all off-season.

Defensively, Coach introduced the philosophy for the season. We are going to be a smothering man to man Full court pressure team. Since this is my first year in the program playing for this coach, I wanna make sure I understand the defense completely. I do not want to be out of position. I want to know the rotation. And if I am not sure, I will talk with teammates and ask the coach about areas. I’m not 100% sure.

December 2 4 to 6 second Trail my goal going into the tryout to talk more than anybody else on the court. I didn’t realize how easy this should be because most players don’t even say a word. I know talking helps me focus. I know talking helps my defense. My teammates know where I am and what type of help I can offer. This is going to be a habit that I continue to work on all year.

I am very confident that I could be a member of this team. When I look around the court, I know that I am committed more than many of the players. I am a totally different player than I was last year when I got. I wanna make this team more than anything. Nobody on the court wants it more than. I’m pretty sure my effort is communicating that to the other players and the coaches.

The coach is continuing to stress having a smothering defense and full-court pressure. I feel I am doing better defensively. Offensively I need to be in the right spots. I need to make sure that I am available to a teammate in trouble. I also need to help my teammates understand where they should be when I’m in trouble. December 3 6:00 – 8:00 PM final day tryouts today was one of the happiest days of my life. I made the team. I finally made the team. So many people told me I couldn’t do it. My parents, my private coach, and my friends believe in me. Paragraph

I know I belong on the team. I know my teachers and classmates are going to be very surprised when I hear that I made the team. What is the reaction gonna be if I can get into the rotation? I have to continue to improve each day. One day at a time. One little thing at a time.

I have to find a role. There are so many different roles on the team. I know I can find one. I can’t believe I’m a varsity high school basketball player.
