The first two weeks of a school year are filled with excitement, anticipation, and anxiety. No matter how many years you have been teaching , each year brings with it a new set of challenges, a new set of students and a new set of goals. We wish you the best in the upcoming school year.

Although there’s no official end date, the first two weeks of school are so intense, we felt that this period deserves special attention. At the high school level, the first couple weeks include a drop add period. Rosters are usually not finalized until the first couple weeks of the school year. There are always exceptions where students may drop at the end of first term or halfway through the year. Usually things settle down after the first week of school.

The first couple weeks of school set the tone for the school year. It is important to establish routines, the classroom culture, and behavior expectations. There probably is no other part of the school year as critical as the first couple weeks of school.

Covid was a changing point in education. Learning and social distancing created many problems in the development of the students in our public schools today. With each year that impact becomes a little less severe, but it certainly is a new teaching environment post Covid.

Many schools face budget cuts as well, so some communities and teachers need to adapt their teaching strategies based on the number of students they have in class.

Good Luck
