How to Teach The Last Lecture Book to High School Students
The Last Lecture is a great book for high school students. For the past few years, I have been using the book with high school seniors. The content of the book lends itself to many personal reflection activities that most of the students seem to enjoy.
Here is a writing prompt that I share with the students.
“Giving kids self-esteem. It’s not something you can give. It’s something they have to build. .. He knew there was only one way to teach kids how to develop it: You give them something they can’t do, they work hard until they find they can do it, and you just keep repeating the process… He made me realize that if I work hard enough, there will be things I can do tomorrow that I can’t do today.” (page 37)
