The feedback from teachers has been incredible to our top 10 twitter accounts for teachers that we have created a Connected Educators Page. Each Connected Educators has received a perfect score of 100 / 100 from tweet grader. For each account we have included the twitter name and the twitter profile.
A twitter profile is limited, so in the the upcoming weeks we will be listing interviews with some of the members on our list. Our first profile is Mark Molloy from My Town Tutors.
What is your current job of position? My name is Mark Molloy. I am currently a full-time teacher and CEO of My Town Tutors. I also am a volunteer 1st and 2nd grade youth basketball coach.
What is your educational background? I attended public school in Quincy up until high school. I attend Boston College High School and later went to Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. I earned my Master’s Degree from UMass-Boston.
Describe your educational philosophy and educational vision? I believe each student has unique skills that sometimes might need encouragement. It is important to understand the whole student in order to personalize their learning. I also believe that in many cases a tutor can make the world of difference in self-esteem and academic performance.
How do you grow and engage your professional learning network? I believe a professional learning network must first start in a school. Connecting with members of an academic department or team is essential. Sharing ideas, discussing teaching strategies, themes, the community, and classroom management ideas with other members of a staff is critical. Each school and community has unique characteristics that only members of the school can understand. So I would first start with my school.
Secondly, I have used twitter to connect with some of the most amazing educators. We do list our “perfect” twitter accounts, however we realize this is only one measure. There are so many other educators that have so much to offer.
Thirdly, I enjoy reading blogs. There are some awesome ideas that are shared by many qualified educators. My Town Tutors has been successful in attracting some great guest blogs to share with our followers.
Lastly, we are using twitter to make as many connections as possible. We would love to connect so please follow us.
If you blog, what is the focus of it?
Our blog covers a wide range of topics. Our goal is to connect with parents and teachers, so the content is usually directed at these audiences. We share lesson ideas, teaching and parenting strategies, and well as many other topics.
We think our most valuable asset is our guest blog. Here we allow others to share their knowledge, experience and expertise. I really feel this is a great resource. I enjoy reading these a great deal!
What advice in general do you have to teachers today? Teaching is an incredible profession. I cannot not think of a better career. However it is important to understand some of the challenges. As the son of two educators, I understand the possibility of lay-offs, pay freezes, and public criticism. Despite all of this, I highly recommend the career for people who make a difference with others.
In terms of finances, it is important to understand ways to earn extra money. Tutoring is just one example, however we feel it is the best solution for many teachers. We have had teachers who are registered with us make $5,000 in a school year.
My Town Tutors is a website that connects parents with teachers who tutor. If you are a teacher who tutors, for a limited time, you can register for using promo code: usteachers. Teachers set the hourly and keep 100% of the fees! One of our teachers made $5,000 last year tutoring.
It is FREE for parents to search for a teacher in their area. Please help us find ONE MORE teacher who tutors!

Teachers, How Do You Measure Perfection?
I would like to thank one of our followers for pointing out a HUGE flaw in our recent blogs about connected educators. This post is a response to the following tweet:
“@mytowntutors Please take me off your Twitter list. It’s not just about numbers. Thanks. #edchat”
We agree 100% with the criticism of our list. Twitter is NOT about the numbers, it is about building relationships, and that is why we will be following a new order for listing our perfect twitter accounts for educators, reverse alphabetical order.
Initially we posted a blog of 5 educational twitter accounts that received a 100% grade on tweetgrader. The feedback was incredible, so we continued to expand our list. In our “data-driven” society, we decided a logical way to order the accounts would be based on the number of followers from highest to lowest.
The critical tweet reminded us of our original goal – to create a list of quality educator accounts for teachers to follow. We will continue to stay true to our mission of finding quality accounts for educators, however, we will not rank the list based on the number of followers.
For example, why should Bill Nye the science guy be listed #1 simply because he has close to 500,000 followers, when is he is only following 31 accounts? What is the likelihood that he would develop a strong relationship with any of us?
Additionally, when we look at our strongest relationships on twitter, we do not see how many followers there have. We simply value their advice, input, and feedback.
In conclusion, if we have offended anyone, please accept our apologizes. We will continue to seek out 100% perfect twitter accounts, and yes we will list the number of followers, however we WILL NO LONGER rank our list.
We value all the members on the list and appreciate what they have to share and offer with the educational community. Thanks for all your feedback and we will continue to work hard to be a great resource for teachers, educators, and parents.
