  • The South Shore's #1 Resource for Tutoring

    Please Share!

My Town Tutors was created in Hanover, Massachusetts in 2009 by a high school teacher with one simple goal – to be a great South Shore tutoring resource for parents, teachers, and guidance counselors. Our motto is “Teachers are great tutors!”
My Town Tutors lists over 250 teachers who tutor, mostly from the South Shore. We make it easy for South Shore parents to connect with a local teacher who tutors.
My Town Tutors has two simple beliefs.
    1. Teachers are great tutors!
    2. Parents want great tutors for their children!
My Town Tutors is a huge hit on the South Shore because we provide a great service to many groups.
Parents and students can find qualified professional teachers, with unique skills to work with their child. Parents can have complete confidence that the each of the tutors we list in this area has experience teaching students with variety of learning abilities and styles.
Teachers who tutor are a great alternative to the national tutoring franchises. Many of these companies rarely employ teachers, and if they do, the teachers are grossly underpaid. The national franchise tutors are usually college students who have no training or experience working with students. Additionally, these companies charge insanely high fees.
Teachers know the curriculum, content, and state standards. More importantly, teachers know children. They understand the learning process and the challenges faced by many students. They speak regularly with other teachers and have been trained to use strategies to reach many different learning styles.
“I have seen incredible progress with my child. He went from a failing grade at mid-term to a B+. I have seen improvement in his grades, but more importantly in his self-esteem.” South Shore 10th grade parent.
Teachers can use their education, experience, knowledge, and training to do what they do best, help students achieve academically. At the same time, these teachers can have the flexibility to select their own hours and own rate of pay.
We list teachers from almost every school district on the South Shore. We currently have several teachers who are tutoring students regularly. We even have two high school math teachers who are turning away students because they are so busy.
“Tutoring is a great way to earn extra money. I enjoy the flexibility of selecting hours that fit my schedule. It is also a great way to connect with a student. It so rewarding to hear with pride a student report an improved grade to me!” South Shore Teacher / Math Tutor
Guidance counselors can take one more thing off their busy plates. Guidance counselors no longer have to ask around to find a tutor for a student. Guidance counselors in the South Shore know that qualified teachers are very capable tutors. Now when a parent inquires about a tutor, the guidance department can refer the person to My Town Tutors.
“My Town Tutors has been a great resource for us. In the past we have had difficulty locating tutors for some subjects. Now we have a database of tutors from the entire South Shore. If we do not have a physics tutor in Hanover, we can connect with a Marshfield High or Holbrook High teacher. It has been a great time saver for us!” Hanover High Guidance Counselor
The goal of My Town Tutors is really simple – to make it easy for students and parents to connect with a qualified, local teacher.
Teachers can register for only $12. With our special promotion, teachers will be listed on My Town Tutors until September 2014.  There are no other fees for our service.
My Town Tutors has been tested successfully in the towns South of Boston. We have added some great new features to our website and are ready to provide our service in every state.
We currently have over 250 teachers registered. Most of our teachers are from the South Shore, but we are currently recruiting teachers from all over Massachusetts. Teachers can sign-up today.
We would love for people to comment on this blog and share your thoughts on our belief that “Teachers are great tutors.”

  • My Town Tutors: It's as Easy as ABC

My Town Tutors has a goal of being the number one resource for Massachusetts parents looking to connect with teachers who tutor.
We have one simple belief:  Massachusetts “Teachers are great tutors!”
My Town Tutors started in Hanover, Massachusetts and currently lists 225+ teachers who tutor. Parents on the South Shore now have an outstanding resource when they are looking for local tutors. We can field the majority of tutoring requests for all grade levels.
Our challenge now is to reach as many teachers and parents in the other areas of Massachusetts. We are using several different methods. This post will explain how we are using the ABC method to reach every high school in Massachusetts before the start of the 2012-2013 school year.
    It’s as Easy as ABC
We have a listing of all the Massachusetts High Schools. In addition to contacting teachers, parents, and administrators by athletic leagues, we will be contacting 4 people in each school starting with all the “A” high schools.
    We will contact:
    1. A Math Teacher – Many parents and students are interested in having math tutoring. One math teacher per school will be contacted with a note and a few business cards. We are asking these teachers to share the note with other educators.
Tutoring is a great way for teachers to make extra money. It only costs a teacher $12 to be listed as a tutor for over 2 years (until September 2014). The teacher keeps all other fees. If they decide to charge $75 an hour, they keep all $75 dollars. There are no hidden fees.
The membership is from now until September 30, 2014, a very low cost to have the ability of making $50 – $200 a week.
    2. A High School Principal – We feel our service can benefit an entire school community. Higher grades and SAT scores can be a great reflection on a school system. Confident and motivated students have less behavior issues and more self-esteem.
A principal also has the ability to share information with an entire school district. A principal communicates with parents, students, teachers, guidance counselors, and so many other members of a school community. We are asking the principals to simply share a letter and article with their school community.
    3. A High School Guidance Counselor – As a veteran educator, I know how challenging it is to find qualified tutors. My Town Tutors has solved this problem. We only list teachers who tutor. Teachers from other schools who live in a town can be a great resource.
We are asking guidance counselors to post a flier in their office to share information with parents and students. We also would encourage them to list our service on the school guidance page. Guidance counselors have extremely challenging jobs. Eliminate the time spent looking for tutors can free up time for them to spend on the so many other tasks of a guidance counselor.
    4. The High School PTO – Parents have the most important job in America. My Town Tutors values the time and effort that our parents commit to their children. Teaching morals, values and work ethic are best taught at home.
But …… Physics?… Chemistry?… Calculus?… Geometry?… French? This is beyond the abilities of so many parents. The goal of My Town Tutors is to provide parents with a great resource to find a qualified local teacher who tutors.
We have just started to send out letters to all the “A” schools. Please understand, My Town Tutors is committed to being the #1 resource for tutoring in Massachusetts. We are very well-established on the South Shore. In Abington, we currently list 83 tutors within 15 miles of 02351.
Even though we currently do not yet list any tutors in that Athol, we hope with our direct mailings, to be able to some great tutoring options for Athol parents.
We ask that teachers have faith in our service and sign-up. It only takes one teacher to start us off. We are committed to teachers and parents. Please have a little faith and patience as we work to be the best resource for parents and teachers who are interested in finding a tutor.
If you are teacher or parent, please help share this information with others.

  • Massachusetts Patriot League Schools Have Great Tutors!

My Town Tutors is a great resource for Patriot League schools. The schools in this league are like so many others in Southeastern Massachusetts. There are many great coaches, teachers, and student-athletes .
My Town Tutors helps parents and students in these communities find teachers who tutor. My Town Tutors started in Hanover, MA (02339). We are sending letters to each school in the state to make teachers aware of this great opportunity. This week we sent letters to 5 teachers in each of the schools. We are hoping to list many more teachers who tutor in these communities.
We believe Massachusetts “Teachers are great tutors!”
    Schools (tutors in the area)

  • Massachusetts Teachers are Great Tutors!

My Town Tutors believes Massachusetts “Teachers are great tutors!” We make it easy for parents to connect with local teachers who tutor. We currently have over 230 Massachusetts teachers registered, but we need so many more.
    We have two simple beliefs.
    1. Teachers are great tutors!
    2. Parents want great tutors for their children.
The idea for My Town Tutors was conceived while walking the grounds of the Marshfield Fair the week before school started. Another teacher was working fourteen straight, 18-hour days for $10 an hour as a security guard. Many other security guards were teachers who needed extra money to make it to the 1st pay check and working the Marshfield Fair was the best, and for some, only, part-time job available.
I suddenly realized that creating MyTownTutors could solve two major problems for teachers, students, and parents:
    1. Teachers can use their education, experience, knowledge, and training to do what they do best – help students achieve academically. At the same time, these teachers could have the flexibility of selecting their own hours and own rate of pay (definitely more than $10 an hour).
    2. Parents can find qualified, professional teachers, with unique skills to work with a child. Parents can have complete confidence that the every tutor we list has experience and training working with students who have a variety of learning abilities and styles.
My Town Tutors firmly believes teachers who tutor are a much better alternative for parents than the national tutoring franchises. Many of these companies rarely employ teachers, and if they do, the teachers are grossly underpaid. The national franchise tutors are usually college students who have little, if any, training or experience working with students. Additionally, the cost of these services for parents is insanely high.
    “Teacher are great tutors!”
Massachusetts teachers know the curriculum, content, and state standards. More importantly, teachers know children. They understand the learning process and the challenges faced by many students. They speak regularly with other educators and have been trained to use strategies to reach many different learning styles.
The goals of My Town Tutors are really simple.

    1. To make it easy for students and parents to connect with a qualified, local teacher who tutors.
    1. To help teachers who tutor earn additional income with a flexible schedule that fits their needs.

Last fall, My Town Tutors was tested successfully in the towns south of Boston. Parents and teachers loved it! We now list over 225 teachers who tutor.
Over the summer we added some great new features, including updates to our profile page (Tutor Profile: Mark Molloy) and we are reaching out to teachers across the state.
My Town Tutors would love to have any Massachusetts (or U.S.) teacher who tutors join our national directory. With our special promotion, teachers can register until September 31, 2014 for only $12. There are no other fees for our service. If a teacher charges $50 an hour, the teacher keeps all $50. It is that simple.
If any teacher or parent has a question about our services, please email – mark@mytowntutors.com. I would appreciate any feedback.
