  • Is your child a K-3 student struggling with reading? I am a Massachusetts-certified elementary and special education teacher, who is studying to become a Reading Specialist. I am a hard-working and well-respected second grade teacher with 10 years of teaching experience. Prior to teaching second grade, I taught first grade, fourth grade, and special education K-5. The variety of teaching experiences has helped me gain an appreciation and awareness of the complex demands of the K-5 curriculum and the varying needs of children at each stage. Many children struggle with reading. Whether it's accuracy, fluency or comprehension, reading is an extraordinarily complex skill. Often, one on one tutoring bridges the gap for a child who is struggling with reading. The child who needs confidence, strategies and supportive practice, will learn more in a comfortable one-on-one environment, without the distractions of a typical classroom. My teaching philosophy is that success is built upon a foundation of meaningful, thoughtful instruction paired with enriching and motivating activities. All children learn best when they are feeling comfortable and having fun. I thoughtfully prepare fun and engaging lessons and activities that create memorable learning experiences for your child. I enjoy sharing techniques and strategies with parents so that they can use them at home. I am studying to become a licensed Reading Specialist. I have completed 2/3 of the rigorous program at Salem State. I have learned many strategies that will help your child improve his or her reading skills this summer. I am excited to share them with you. I am an experienced teacher and tutor. I am happy to provide tutoring references at your request. ~Bethany
