Since his undergraduate days at the University of Arizona where he double-majored in British literature and poetry, Matthew Paquette engaged in a wide-range of educational opportunities. For instance, he later studied literature and theology at Andover-Newton Theological School. Within his first two years of teaching, he developed and implemented a senior project, now a graduation requirement for all students. Later, he chaired a school-wide writing initiative that now is advancing into a district-wide program. He is wrote extensive curriculum for the English department. This interest in literacy extends beyond the classroom. Consulting for STEPS Professional Development for ten years, he edited a textbook on reading for content-area teachers, and designed implementation manuals in literacy for numerous schools throughout New York and Rhode Island. Among others, these experiences secured his interest in post-graduate work in educational leadership. Having received his C.A.G.S from Salem State College, he is certified as a supervisor/director. As a leader, he has come to appreciate the complex interplay among curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Within each of these areas, he works to improve teaching and learning. He hopes to continue his work in these areas both in and out of the classroom. Overall, he embraces opportunities to foster initiatives, to bring these initiatives to fruition, and to collaborate with a diversity of others in education.
